The entire time we spent with Ashley, Jarratt, their friends, and family at their wedding was full of laughs (a lot of it from groomsmen making fun of Jarratt). After the ceremony at Pine Ridge Baptist, we joined the wedding guests at the Brunswick Country Club for a fun reception.

After church a couple Sunday’s ago, my family got together at Bubba Garcia’s (great Mexican food) for lunch. With us was my adorable niece Mary Jane. So, of course, out came the camera. I’ve been practicing using natural light alone lately and this was a good opportunity to play some more. I tend to use off-camera flash on almost every portrait shot. Sometimes I know it has held me back from the flexibility I could have had were I not relying on it. I’m glad to say the experiments are going good.

I am super pleased with this engagement session. Jekyll Island has great beaches that we took full advantage of. Driftwood Beach, where we began our session, is a popular site for weddings and portrait sessions. The good thing about a 6am shoot is the beaches being almost completely clear of other people. We did have one ATV drive by with college students checking on the sea turtle nests near us though.

I do want to point out one thing I was really stoked about… I got to climb a tree! The picture looking down at Ashley and Michael laying on the beach towel was taken from about 8 feet up in the air and about 12 feet out on a slippery branch. There’s nothing like a little danger to make a photo shoot a little more exciting!

Afterward we headed to the historic district to get some more images including some with their bows! They both compete in archery tournaments and wanted to incorporate this love they share into their portraits.

We can’t wait for their wedding next month!

Three of the people profiled are friends of mine and – along with Leslie – are involved in CrossFit. Earlier in the summer when we had more time we participated in their training and boy did we see improvements right away! I look forward to the slow-down of the fall and hope we can get involved again.

Though only four pictures were used in the article, several more were taken and I thought I’d show those to you all as well for the fun of it.

From the moment we walked in to the time we left I don’t think Maria ever stopped smiling. We love seeing brides who aren’t stressed and can totally enjoy their wedding. It made our job easier because we never had to ask for a smile. We also never had to ask them to “look like they love each other” either. It was all there already. We just had to capture the emotion and love and happiness they shared.

Katie and Nick had a beautiful wedding overlooking the marsh of Shellman Bluff, GA with reception following at the Cooper’s Point clubhouse. The family and the wedding party were so fun to work with. They had a blast – and so did we photographing them.

The wedding was held at the Itylldoo House on St Simons Island, right on the beach! The house is beautiful inside and out. It’s the best wedding preparation/ceremony/reception venue we have been to in our opinion. The ceremony was held on the deck overlooking the river between St Simons and Jekyll. The reception was held on the lawn closer the house. The portraits were done on a trolley, at the Avenue of Oaks, on the beach by the lighthouse, and on location at the house.

You know photographers can’t be all work and no play, right? Well tonight before Bible study at a friend’s church Amanda, Kari, and I played with sun flares and overexposure – just for fun.

Our time with them downtown was mostly fun except for the gnats driving us crazy. We even ran into Brooke Roberts, another photographer, while we were down there.

We had a table with our wedding guides, cards, and a few photos, a tv with a slideshow of some our favorite images, and a sitting area for brides to look at albums and talk with us. Here are a few shots from the day.

Christina and Dan had a beautiful wedding Jekyll Island. It was a destination wedding for these two from Wichita. From the first phone call to see if we were available for their date, I knew these two were going to be an awesome couple to work with.

Their wedding was under a big, old oak tree on the lawn of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel in the Historic District. It was a great scene right on the waterfront.

Like we say after all of our shoots, we had loads of fun and were so happy with the images we got. Take a look and leave us a comment.

So to keep from blabbing too much, here’s the quick rundown. Wedding in Brunswick. Portraits a couple weeks later on Jekyll Island. Good times. Now to some of our favorites!

We started on the beach with a few of her best friends. We didn’t have to remind them to smile one time – they were having so much fun together. Afterwards we headed to the Jekyll Island Club Hotel to take advantage of the beautiful grounds then headed back to the beach for some twilight shots.

Charity and Dustin got married at the Old City Hall which gave us our first downtown wedding. We’ve wanted to shoot a downtown wedding since forever! To top it off they rode away in a snazzy vintage Caddy where we got this shot.

Hey guys. Just wanted to share this photo we got last month. During a recent outing with the local photographer meetup group we spent some time inside St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in downtown Brunswick, GA. It was a really fun time getting to hang out with and shoot with other photographers in the area.

This was the one shot I knew I wasn’t leaving there without. I think it turned out well.

Amanda and I were driving home from a senior portrait session on Jekyll Island when we saw Georgia Pacific (paper manufacturing plant) lit up with perfect wind direction. I had been waiting on a perfect night like this for at least a year so you can imagine how excited I was to be driving down Hwy 303 and see this.
