Jay, Brooke, and Hayden – St Simons Island Family Portraits

Monday, September 27th, 2010

There’s more emotion to this session than most. Mostly because there’s a story.

I met Jay and Brooke during my freshman year of high school while volunteering for a local ministry together. They got married a couple years after we met. Now 10 years later we get to celebrate the fruition of a fight that has been a cause of pain and has needed much prayer. Jay and Brooke’s struggle to start a family has been a long and arduous one. In God’s timing He presented to them a girl who needed a good family to adopt her son to be. On September 8th, after 10 years of waiting, Jay and Brooke became parents.

Hayden is an answer to prayer. Amanda and I, along with so many friends, made that call to God asking for the blessing of a child for Jay and Brooke. We are more than honored to be able to photograph this family – an evidence of God’s grace.

In the picture where Jay is wearing the hat, I just think of Fire Marshall Bill on In Living Color.

This is incredible. These pictures mean so much more than a family photo session. Brooke, you look gorgeous. What a beautiful family! I have been encouraged by God’s faithfulness in your journey. By seeing Hayden come into your life It has confirmed that God is the God who sees….. Thanks for walking this road and letting all of us be encouraged and inpsired by God’s goodness in your life!

Lunch With the Family at Bubba Garcia’s

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

We don’t post much personal stuff on here and I’d like to change that. We don’t just take photos of other people. There’s more that. Like our families.

After church a couple Sunday’s ago, my family got together at Bubba Garcia’s (great Mexican food) for lunch. With us was my adorable niece Mary Jane. So, of course, out came the camera. I’ve been practicing using natural light alone lately and this was a good opportunity to play some more. I tend to use off-camera flash on almost every portrait shot. Sometimes I know it has held me back from the flexibility I could have had were I not relying on it. I’m glad to say the experiments are going good.

Anyway, I just wanted to share these pictures with you guys. Feel free to comment below.

Fun Times with the VanBoxel Kids

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

On a cold winter morning we joined the VanBoxel kids and their sneaky dad Jimmy under the guise of “going to see Santa” to get some secret photos to give their mom for Christmas. Yeah, I’m posting this two months late. :)

The plan was to meet at Christ Church to make use of the several hundred year old tabby walls and the great scenery. We also borrowed the playground for a bit. Next we headed to the St. Simons Island pier area for some more  fun. These kids were a blast! This shoot was a bit different because Jimmy (dad) really likes black and white photography. Photographing with that purpose gives us a whole different approach to capturing images. I love when we get to things a bit different than normal.

On a “this guy rocks” side note. Jimmy is a stylist and owns Uberzoot Salon on St. Simons Island. He’s given Amanda and I the best cuts and styles we’ve ever had.
